Do stims come and go?

The Elder used to always make this sound with his mouth. Kinda with a “b” and a “th” repeated over and over again. I actually forgot that he did it until he recently started doing it again. Now that he is talking and able to express himself in safe environments, I just flat out said:

Me: What does that mean?

The Elder: I don’t know.

Me: Is it just a sound you make?

The Elder: No. It’s a word.

Me: What does the word mean?

The Elder: I don’t know.

So that solves that.

The Prince’s stims come and go too. He also had a mouth noise thing that he quit doing for over a year and is now doing it again. His answer as to why, “it makes my brain feel good.”

We’re also back to bouncing, hopping, and flapping, but that could be due to less physical activity, since I am out of commission for a little while, though the Professor is doing double duty.

But in our case, the stims do not seem to be a sign of regression, more like a stress outlet, though they can be annoying to NT’s like us. As long as they don’t hurt anyone else, I’ve just learned to live with them.
