Testing out this new plugin to see if it does what I want it to. If you are interested in trying it. click on ‘what plugins Jen uses’ and it should be there with a link…unless THAT plugin isn’t working. lol.

Happy 300 posts to me!

I was going into my dashboard to post a Youngerese and lo and behold, I saw "You have 300 posts."

Wow…Im in shock because I've only been blogging for about 18 months, and the last 6 months or so I have done much other my "cheat posts" that are auto-posted from Twitter.

So yay for me, and yay for you. I appreciate all my readers (even those who don't leave comments…yeah, you know who you are! ;-) )

Find Out What Jen Found About Commenting

OK. It appears to be a blogger thing which is what I suspected. Then I thought perhaps it had something to do with the “subdomain” format of the url or the lack of www and/or the lack of http://.

That was all proven wrong. As far as what data I had collected so far. It appears that anything that is ending with “blogspot.com” leads to a “failed to add comment” slap on the hand. I suspect that it has to do with my threaded comments plugin because The Hub had similar complications which went away when he deactivated the plugin. (He did not however collect data to verify if it was only blogger sites or for all sites.)

But I Looooooooooooooooooove this plugin because:

  1. I can reply to a particular comment and embed it in the original comment.
  2. The replies that anyone leaves automatically notifies the original commenter.
  3. I can reply to a comment in the dashboard when I am moderating comments.
  4. It’s just plain cool.

So the good news is that I have nailed down the cause (or least what I speculate is the cause).

The bad news is that I’m torn in regards to getting rid of it because of the above. I know, I know…it’s a heaven or hell issue. My life will be taunted because of this self-absorbed moment. BUT I’m going to try to alleviate the issues by giving some possible solutions to my readers…

1. Get a domain name (like www.whatjenfinds.com with no “blogspot” inserted in there).

Cons:

  • Not free, but very inexpensive. I got mine from 1&1 which right now is $6.99 for a year.
  • May not get the name you want.
  • Will need a hosting site†.

Pros:

  • †Blogger will host you for free! Go to Settings on your Blogger Dashboard, Publishing, and then click on Custom Domain. Easy Peasy.
  • Having your own domain name gives your blog a ‘professional’ flair to it and more likely to get higher ratings in the blogosphere.

2. Use your OpenID url

Cons:

  • You might have no clue what that is.
  • Yet another account to keep up with‡.

Pros:

  • Free
  • ‡Accepted at MANY places (including Blogger) to make logging in a breeze – and help alleviate the “another account to keep up with” side effect.
  • Get an OpenID with myOpenID and help me make a little moolah too!

Note: You must type in the whole url for it to accept it (e.g. http://www.username.myopenid.com/)

3. Leave the Website field blank

Cons:

  • There’s no link back to your site. :(

Pros:

  • Your comment will be accepted! :)

So many choices!! Hope that helps!
